Today, as part of the commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Astor Piazzolla, we share a selection of interpretation of Piazzolla´s music, together with the message of the Director of Cultural Affairs, Mr. Juan Falú:
"On this 100th anniversary of the birth of Astor Piazzolla, the Directorate of Cultural Affairs of the Argentine Foreign Ministry and Radio Nacional Argentina join in the national and universal embrace of his work.
In the genesis of this work there are undoubtedly various musical sources that shaped his solid training. This diversity may be one of the keys to his musical ecumenism.
However, Astor Piazzolla is an Argentine musician with the clear traces of a tango language that is in his cradle and also in his own transgression of certain codes of tango itself, clinging to his own tradition.
Piazzolla was always pointed out as the great innovator of Argentine musical tango, but the hypothesis of the aesthetic mobility of a language that navigated between its traditions and its transformations would be more adjusted to reality. In this dialectic, our distinguished composer drank on the roads of Cobián, De Caro, Troilo and Salgán, just to point out some unavoidable references.
The passage from the tango homeland to the universal appropriation of his music places Piazzolla as a privileged exponent of a musical language that resulted in the listening and approaching of his work anywhere in the world, and by interpreters of the more diverse musical formations.
We join these celebrations with a compilation of more than a hundred performances by Argentine artists from various provinces of our country.
We hope that this proposal can always be fed and enriched by the musical universe of Argentina and the world.
